On May 28, 2021, deputies from the Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) concluded an investigation involving narcotics sales and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In May 2021, DEU obtained information from Thousand Oaks Patrol deputies indicating (S) Jesse Johnson was involved in narcotics sales and was in possession of a firearm. Johnson is a convicted felon and therefore is prohibited from possessing a firearm. DEU members investigated Johnson and obtained evidence to support his involvement in the illegal sales of heroin, methamphetamine, and alprazolam (Xanax). Deputies obtained a search warrant for Johnson’s residence, which was on the 300 block of Havenside Avenue in Newbury Park. On May 28, 2021, deputies arrested Johnson for narcotics violations. DEU served the search warrant at Johnson’s residence and located evidence of narcotic sales and a firearm. In total, there were 71.2 grams of heroin, 70.8 grams of methamphetamine, 290 alprazolam pills, 16 Suboxone strips, as well as working scales. Deputies also located a loaded firearm, which was in a position readily available to be used and in close proximity to the narcotics. Johnson was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for PC 29800(a)(1) – Felon in Possession of a Firearm, HS 11370.1(a) – Possession of a Controlled Substance while Armed, HS 11351 – Possession for Sales of a Controlled Substance, HS 11378 – Possession for Sales of a Controlled Substance, and HS 11375(b)(1) – Possession for Sales of a Controlled Substance. At the time of his arrest, Johnson was out on bail/Own Recognizance (OR) for five open criminal cases. Of the five open cases, three were for narcotics sales violations. Johnson is currently in custody and his bail is set at $500,000. The Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) is made up of members of the Thousand Oaks Police Department. The mission of the unit is to conduct proactive policing utilizing intelligence led policing methods to reduce crime within the city of Thousand Oaks. |
