Advisory

Update from Mayor Bhalla on COVID-19 (4/26); 25 Johnson & Johnson vaccines available today

Below is an update from Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla on COVID-19:

The Hoboken Health Department has reported the following, new COVID-19 cases:

April 21: 13
April 22: 11
April 23: 22
April 24: 10
April 25: 3
April 26: 6

There have been 4,902 known, confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, along with 50 COVID-19 related fatalities. Carepoint reports 10 current COVID-19 hospitalizations, which as of today does not include any Hoboken residents.

Since the start of the vaccination period, the Hoboken Health Department and Carepoint have administered 7,340 Moderna or Pfizer first doses to Hoboken residents, along with 3,547 Moderna or Pfizer second doses. In partnership with our local pharmacies, 215 Johnson & Johnson single-doses have been provided, which does not include today’s clinic.

25 vaccine doses available at Johnson & Johnson clinic today

As an update, the Hoboken Health Department and Medicine Man Pharmacy & Compounding have 25 Johnson & Johnson vaccines remaining and available at a clinic today (Tuesday) for Hoboken residents and employees of Hoboken businesses, between 4:30 and 7:30 pm at 605 Jackson Street. You can still sign-up for an appointment on a first-come, first-serve basis at: www.hobokennj.gov/medicinemanvaccine.

The CDC and FDA have been clear: the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is highly effective, and the benefits far outweigh the potential risks. I encourage residents who have not yet been vaccinated to consider the advantages of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine at today’s clinic.

Appointments this week for Pfizer vaccine through Hoboken Health Department for residents and business employees

Hoboken continues to receive a weekly supply of 1,170 Pfizer vaccines, with a number of appointments available for this week. We are now allowing all employees of Hoboken businesses to get a vaccine through the Hoboken Health Department at Carepoint, in addition to residents. If you have been waiting to get vaccinated because you would prefer to avoid a long wait and want to get your shot locally, now is the time to sign up.

For those ages 16 and up who would like to get the Pfizer vaccine through the Hoboken Health Department, please register now at the following link: www.hobokennj.gov/vaccinesignup. The Hoboken CERT Team is also available to help residents without internet access, by calling 201-420-5621, Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday between 9 am and 12 pm, or leaving your name, number and address on the voicemail.

Getting a vaccine shot remains the best way we can overcome the pandemic, and I urge everyone who has not yet received one, to get vaccinated as soon as conveniently possible.

Homebound vaccinations through Hoboken Family Pharmacy to resume

After a brief pause of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Hoboken Family Pharmacy will begin contacting those homebound residents to reschedule a vaccination appointment. Hoboken Family Pharmacy already vaccinated 17 homebound residents in partnership with the Hoboken Health Department, and will reach out to the other 30 on the list within the next two weeks.

Your help with friends, neighbors and family

One of the best ways you can help Hoboken and our region overcome the pandemic is to encourage your friends and family to get vaccinated. If you have a moment, please consider sharing the facts about the vaccine – that they are safe, effective, will help prevent serious illness, and protects our entire community – and not just the person getting the shot. Encouragement from a trusted friend or family member can go a long way, and I ask each of you to please consider doing so when appropriate.

Upcoming Blood Drive this Friday, April 30

The next City-sponsored blood drive will take place Friday, April 30th at the Multi Service Center (124 Grand Street) from 12noon - 6pm with Vitalant New Jersey.
