Detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Gang Unit contacted and arrested three gang members for various charges after a brief vehicle pursuit in the City of Ventura.
On March 12, 2021, detectives with the Sheriff’s Gang Unit were conducting directed enforcement in the City of Ventura. Detectives observed a vehicle occupied by three subjects and attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle later identified as Miguel Ortiz failed to yield and a short pursuit ensued. After a short distance, the vehicle yielded in the area of Ventura Avenue and West Park Row.
Once the vehicle yielded, Ortiz, the rear passenger Carlos Martinez and a male juvenile were all taken into custody. All three subjects were identified as documented gang members. During a search of the vehicle, detectives located a loaded unregistered firearm. Based on the investigation, all three subjects were arrested for various firearms, weapons and street terrorism charges.
Ortiz and Martinez were booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility. The male juvenile was lodged at the Juvenile Justice Center. All three subjects are awaiting court proceedings.
