#LASD Walnut Diamond Bar Station Update Regarding a Pursuit and Arrest of Female Suspect
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station was involved in a pursuit yesterday, March 9, 2021, that started at approximately 3:22 p.m. that began in front of the Sheriff’s station. The pursuit stemmed from the female suspect becoming involved in a road rage incident with another motorist on the road, which transpired into the suspect using her vehicle as a weapon against the other motorist.
Deputies were flagged down by the motorist who had repeatedly and intentionally been rear ended by the suspect vehicle. Deputies attempted to contact the suspect at which time she fled from them in her vehicle.
The pursuit traversed into the cities of Chino Hills, Chino and Ontario. Law enforcement agencies from those jurisdictions assumed operational control of the pursuit until it re-entered LASD’s jurisdiction. At that time, LASD deputies re-engaged in the pursuit. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle struck several motorists’ vehicles on the road until it became inoperable in the center lane of Northbound Diamond Bar Boulevard and Gentle Springs Lane, Diamond Bar.
The suspect was uncooperative and failed to exit the vehicle. Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) personnel responded to bring the incident to a peaceful conclusion.
Multiple additional attempts by LASD personnel were made to have the suspect exit the vehicle peacefully. After introducing a gas agent, and to the surprise of all personnel, an unknown female child exited the rear of the vehicle and was brought to safety in the arms of an SEB deputy.
Shortly thereafter, the female suspect was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect, Margaret Hassan, is a 30 year-old female resident of Pomona. Hassan was examined at the hospital and is currently housed at CRDF. She was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Child Endangerment, and Felony Evading. She is being held in lieu of $130,000 bail.
The little girl is her 9 year-old daughter. She was taken to the hospital for precautionary medical examination and released to the custody LA County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
A Walnut Diamond Bar field sergeant was involved in a separate traffic collision while responding to the pursuit at Grand Avenue and Valley Boulevard in the city of Walnut. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She has since been released.
The incident concluded at approximately 7:00 pm.
No additional information is available at this time.
