INCIDENT: Kidnapping, Inflicting Corporal Injury on Spouse/Cohabitant, Attempted Murder

LOCATION: 15400 block of Nisqualli Road, Victorville

SUSPECT(S): Shawn William Smith, 40-year old Victorville resident

VICTIM(S): 29-year old female


SUMMARY: On March 9, 2021, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the 15400 block of Nisqualli Road for an unknown disturbance. The caller told Sheriff’s Dispatch a loud argument with things being thrown could be heard in an apartment at the location.

Upon arrival, deputies could hear a female screaming inside the apartment. When they gained entry, they found a 29-year old pregnant female suffering from multiple lacerations. They learned the suspect began attacking her while she slept. During the attack, the suspect broke the victim’s phone to prevent her from calling for help. He also prevented her from letting the deputies inside.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. The couple’s three children were also in the home at the time and were not injured. The suspect, Shawn William Smith, was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for kidnapping, inflicting injury on a spouse/cohabitant, and attempted murder. He is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
