Nature of Incident: Ventura County Sheriff’s Crime Lab maintains accreditation
Location: 800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura CA, 93009
Date & Time: 02/25/21 @ 3:00 PM
Unit(s) Responsible: Ventura County Sheriff’s Crime Lab
Narrative:
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Crime Lab has successfully passed a milestone in its accreditation process.  ANAB (ANSI National Accreditation Board) approved the Ventura County Sheriff’s Forensic Services Bureau to continue towards renewing its accreditation, based upon the results of a recent review.  The result formally acknowledges that the Ventura County Sheriff’s Forensic Services Bureau continues to operate in conformance with the accreditation stringent requirements.

ANAB is a National Accreditation Board that oversees forensic labs throughout the world.  ANAB accreditation is considered the gold standard in all forms of forensic science.  Accredited forensic service providers are expected to maintain the highest standards which are required to achieve accreditation.  Monitoring of the Crime Labs work includes oversight of lab activities, external proficiency testing, disclosure of significant events and nonconformities.  The results of these monitoring activities are considered when confirming the continuation of accreditation.

Accreditation is granted only after a thorough evaluation of an organization’s management system and technical procedures and practices.  Accreditation is the result of an extensive commitment of resources and much preparation by the management and personnel of the Forensic Services Bureau.  After hearing the news, Sheriff Ayub commented, “This is a testament to the hard-working heroes who are often behind the scenes working daily to support the justice system.  The women and men of the crime lab use science to seek truth and todays monitoring results confirm the great work they do.  Congratulations to the whole forensic team.”
