POLICE ACTIVITY - Mailbox burglary suspect arrested
At 4:19 p.m. on Feb. 25, 2021, a citizen called the Santa Clara Police Department and reported a suspicious male in the mail room inside the 1600 block of Nantucket Circle. Witnesses saw the subject with a pry tool in his hand and saw him open several cluster-style mailboxes. The subject also ransacked an office space and was in the process of loading items into a plastic cart. Santa Clara Police Department officers arrived on scene and saw the subject attempting to exit the building through an open window. The subject noticed the officers’ presence and retreated back into the building. After several hours of searching, our officers located him hiding in a small closet. The officers used de-escalation dialogue and gained his voluntary compliance to surrender. No force was used to affect his arrest. During the course of the investigation, the officers also discovered the subject burglarized a locked vehicle in the apartment complex. Fortunately, no one was injured, and officers were able to conclude this investigation at 6:42 p.m. Officers booked the suspect into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for further criminal proceedings.
