INVESTIGATING OFFICER: Traffic Officer LaRocca #85
DETAILS: On Sunday February 21, 2021 at 7:13 pm Patrol Units, the WW Division of Fire & Emergency Services (WWDFES), and Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company (Station #44) were detailed to US Route 1 South just south of Carnegie Boulevard on a Serious Motor Vehicle Collision involving (2) Vehicles. Driver #1 was found to be entrapped and upon Responding Units' arrival. Station #44 worked to extricate Driver #1 from his 2017 Lincoln MKZ which was at its final rest well off of the roadway in a snow covered field. After being extracted from the Lincoln with serious injuries, WWDFES transported Driver #1 to Capital Health Regional Medical Center-Fuld (Trauma).
The initial investigation by the WWPD Traffic Unit & Detective Bureau revealed the following; Vehicle #1 had been traveling south on US Route 1 in the left lane. Just south of Carnegie Center Blvd, Vehicle #1 changed lanes to the right and struck the back of a 2020 Acura SUV being driven by Driver #2. Vehicle #2 spun in the roadway while Vehicle #1 drove off of the roadway to the right. Vehicle #1 struck a tree, a utility pole guide wire and destroyed a hotel sign before coming to rest approximately 30 feet. from the roadway in the snow.
Driver #1 was remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Driver #2 and a passenger of Vehicle #2 had complaints of pains in the neck, however, declined to be transported to a hospital. US Route 1 South was limited to (1) lane of travel for approximately (2) Hours.
