Narrative:
On 02/17/2021, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call of a male subject, later identified as Jose Rodriguez, in possession of a rifle and knife in the agricultural fields located near Las Posas Road and Laguna Road in the unincorporated areas south of Camarillo. The reporting party further advised Rodriguez was a former employee and was “Looking for trouble.”

Deputies from the Camarillo Police Department and Special Enforcement Detail arrived shortly after receiving the call and located Rodriguez walking within the agricultural crop, in close proximity of working employees. Deputies began giving commands to Rodriguez, whose hands were partially obscured by the agricultural produce. Rodriguez ultimately complied with the deputies’ directives and was detained pending further investigation. Deputies conducted a search of the area where Rodriguez was initially observed and located a rifle and baseball bat hidden within the agricultural crop. The rifle closely resembled a firearm, however it was deemed to be a pellet gun.

Deputies conducted an investigation and learned Rodriguez had used the baseball bat to vandalize a vehicle belonging to one of the employees. Rodriguez also brandished the firearm and made statements to the employees in a manner which placed the employees in eminent fear for their safety.

Based on the investigation, Rodriguez was arrested for violation of Penal Code section 422-[Criminal threats] and 594(B)(1)-[Vandalism-Felony]. While processing Rodriguez for booking, deputies learned Rodriguez was arrested by the Oxnard Police Department on 1/30/21 for violation of Penal Code sections 422-[Criminal threats] and 594(b)(1)-[Vandalism-Felony] and posted $20,000.00 bail. Rodriguez was booked at the Ventura County Jail and remains in custody in lieu of $150,000 bail.
