Alert

Updated again. More snow overnight, hazardous driving, Twp/State Closed, Garbage Suspended

New Update as of 2/1/2021 7pm:
Mayor Marathe & Emergency Management Chief Tim Lynch have continued the local State of Emergency until Tuesday:
State of Emergency
Sunday, January  31,2021,2000 h
ours

The Townships limiting the movement of vehicular traffic on affected roadways to allow for road clearing. Please remove vehicles from the roadway.

West Windsor Township Offices – Closed 2/2/2021
Public Works continues to be out treating the roads. They will continue to do so but conditions on bridges and ramps will be horrible due to the continued snow fall. Stay home please! Remove cars from roadways please.

Older Neighbors – Please check on older neighbors. Help them clear snow. Many have small pets and need our help to clear an area so these little furry friends can go out. Make sure they have power and food.

Garbage – Tuesday Suspended

Cars – Move them off the roadway please. Vehicles left in the roadway are causing issues for the plows and making access for emergency vehicles more difficult. Keep cars in driveways. Plows, by their nature, will block the driveway and mailbox. Their job is to remove snow from the road. Sadly, there is nothing any of us can do about this. Assign this task to your favorite child or neighbors child.

Fire Hydrants / Sidewalks – Clear Hydrants as soon as possible. Our firefighters need your help in identifying and being able to access them to save lives. Sidewalks, by ordinance, need to be cleared as well to keep others from getting hurt. We get tons of calls from your neighbors and then we have to make a visit and remind people. We hate doing it so please help.
§ 152-18
Snow and ice removal or treatment required.
The owner, occupant or tenant of the premises abutting or bordering upon any street in the township shall remove all snow and ice from the abutting sidewalks of such streets or, in the event of ice which may be so frozen as to make removal impracticable, shall cause the same to be thoroughly covered with sand, ashes or rock salt within 24 hours after the same shall cease to fall or be formed thereon.

How You and Your Family Can Stay Safe During the Storm

  • Stay off roads if at all possible. If you must be on the roads, be sure to have an emergency kit for your car that includes items for winter such as blankets, socks, ice scraper/brush, windshield cleaner, and jumper cables.
  • Limit your time outside. If you need to go outside, then wear layers of warm clothing. Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
  • Avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. ONLY use generators and grills outdoors and away from windows. Never heat your home with a gas stovetop or oven.
  • ALWAYS assume downed wires are live! NEVER touch them or drive over them!
  • NEVER drive through flooded areas. Water may be deeper than you think!
  • Avoid candles because of the extreme risk of fire. Use only battery powered lights, such as flashlights, for emergency lighting.
  • Reduce the risk of a heart attack by avoiding overexertion when shoveling snow and walking in the snow.
  • Pets are family too. If you’re cold, they’re cold. Bring them inside.
  • If it is safe to do so, check on your neighbors. Older adults and young children are more at risk in extreme cold. Just a moment of your time can mean a lot to someone who may need help. NJ 2-1-1 has resources for those in need.
