Narrative:
On 1/12/2021, at about 6:40 p.m., patrol deputies with the Camarillo Police Department arrested a suspect for multiple thefts committed at the same location within just a few days.
On January 8th, 2021, loss prevention officers at Target in Camarillo reported a suspect stole over $350.00 worth of merchandise. On January 9th, 2021, the same suspect returned to the same Target store and stole over $3,800.00 worth of merchandise.
Camarillo detectives began an investigation and identified the suspect as Oxnard resident, Erick Allen. At the time of these thefts, Allen was out on bail for committing another violation of grand theft at Home Depot in Thousand Oaks on January 6th, 2021.
On January 12th, 2021, Allen returned to the Target in Camarillo. He began loading up a shopping cart with numerous high value items. He attempted to conceal the items in his shopping cart beneath a large duffel bag. Target loss prevention recognized Allen from the previous two thefts. Believing Allen to be about to commit a third similar theft, Target’s loss prevention called the Sheriff’s Office. As patrol deputies were responding to the location, Allen suddenly abandoned the loaded shopping cart and ran out the exit. Allen attempted to evade responding deputies but was located and taken into custody.
Allen was arrested for violations of shoplifting, grand theft, and attempted grand theft. Allen is currently incarcerated at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $75,000.00 bail awaiting trial.
