| Narrative: |
On 12/15/2020, at approximately 11:15 AM, deputies at the Sheriff’s Pre-Trial Detention Facility discovered Steven Johnson alone and unresponsive in his cell. Deputies immediately rendered aid and summoned medical staff. Ventura City Fire and American Medical Response personnel responded to provide more advanced care and transported Mr. Johnson by ambulance to Community Memorial Hospital. A few days later, Mr. Johnson was transferred to the Ventura County Medical Center for additional care. On 12/20/2020, at approximately 9:13 PM, Mr. Johnson was pronounced deceased.
The cause of death is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, pending autopsy results from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a matter of policy, the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau investigates all inmate deaths.
