Nakia Lockwood of Needles was arrested for a hit & run collision, DUI, felony evading, resisting arrest and warrants

DATE/TIME: December 18, 2020/1:45 a.m.

INCIDENT: 20002 V.C. Hit and Run, 2800.2 V.C. Felony Evading in Vehicle, 23152 (a) V.C. Driving Under the Influence, 148(a) P.C. Resist/Delay Officer and Warrants.

LOCATION: 1900 Block of Clary Dr, Needles California

SUSPECTS: Nakia Lockwood, 20 years old, resident of Needles
Josephine Baumgartner, 19 years old, resident of Needles

SUMMARY:
On December 18, 2020 at approximately 1:45 a.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department responded to a report of a hit and run vehicle accident in the area of D Street and Cibola Street in the city of Needles. While conducting an area check for the suspect vehicle, Deputy Whitmer located a vehicle matching the description provided in the 1000 block of Lillyhill Drive. Deputy Whitmer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Nakia Lockwood, failed to yield and fled in the vehicle. Lockwood was driving recklessly at a high rate of speed through residential areas and apartment complexes, committing several hazardous traffic violations. Lockwood came to a stop in the 1900 block of Clary Drive and fled on foot. A female passenger, later identified as Josephine Baumgartner, also fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, both Lockwood and Baumgartner were taken into custody without further incident.

Investigation revealed that Lockwood was driving while under the influence of alcohol and had six warrants for his arrest. He was arrested for Hit and Run, Evading, Driving under the influence and his warrants. Lockwood was booked at the Needles jail and is being held pending his court appearance on $ 275,000. bail. Baumgartner was arrested for resisting/delaying a peace officer, booked into the Needles jail and later released on her own recognizance with a citation.
