Narrative:
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Gang Unit located stolen bullet proof vests, an unregistered firearm, ammunition, and extended capacity magazines during a probation search in Ventura.

In December of 2020, deputies assigned to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and Sheriff’s Gang Unit received information reference (S) Kevin Stachkunas being in possession of stolen bullet proof vests and an illegal firearm. Kevin Stachkunas was on active Ventura County probation with search terms for controlled substances, stolen property, and burglary tools. Kevin Stachkunas was prohibited from possessing firearms and had an outstanding Ventura County misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.

On 12/15/2020, Detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Gang Unit conducted a probation search at Kevin Stachkunas’ residence in the city of Ventura. Upon contact, Kevin Stachkunas was arrested for the outstanding misdemeanor warrant and a search of the residence was conducted. During the search, detectives located bullet proof vests that are suspected to be stolen. The search also yielded an unregistered 9mm pistol, 9mm ammunition, two 17 round magazines, and one 30 round magazine. An inside the waistband pistol holster, capable of concealing the pistol on a person, was also located at the residence. The unregistered firearm is commonly referred to as a “Ghost Gun” due to the lack of a commercial serial number, which makes the firearm untraceable and allows the possessor to circumvent regulated background checks.

Kevin Stachkunas was arrested for the outstanding misdemeanor warrant, as well as Penal Code 29815 (a) – Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Penal Code § 27545 – Unlawful Transfer of Firearm, and Penal Code § 496 (a) – Receiving Stolen Property.
