On December 10, two suspects were arrested at the Camarillo Premium Outlets for Organized Retail Theft, Conspiracy, and Shoplifting by the Direct Enforcement Unit.
On December 10, 2020, deputies from the Direct Enforcement Unit were informed of a theft in progress at a retail store in the Camarillo Premium Outlets. A description of the suspects and their vehicle was provided to the deputies. A short time later, deputies located the vehicle and a traffic enforcement stop was conducted near the Camarillo Premium Outlets. The driver was identified as Yan Palma Izquierdo and the passenger as Josefa Mayorga. Izquierdo and Mayorga matched the description provided to deputies as the possible theft suspects. A search of their vehicle revealed stolen clothing items from a store in the Camarillo Premium Outlets. Both Izquierdo and Mayorga were arrested for theft.
As the investigation progressed, additional evidence was obtained confirming Izquierdo and Mayorga worked in concert and had stolen clothing items from multiple stores. It was also learned that Izquierdo and Mayorga planned to sell these items through an on-line sales forum.
Izquierdo and Mayorga were both booked into the Ventura County Jail for PC 490.4(b)(1), Organized Retail Theft, PC 182(a)(1) Conspiracy, and PC 459.5(a). Both of their bails were set at $50,000 dollars. Both Izquierdo and Mayorga have court dates set for December 14, 2020.
Organized Retail Theft is a worldwide epidemic that affects all law abiding consumers; and is not just limited to clothing. Other items commonly stolen are medication, hygienic items, tobacco products, and other items perceived as necessities. These seemly low cost items are illegally sold on-line and/or shipped to countries all over the world. Organized Retail Theft is commonly a team of two or more suspects who conspire to steal large amounts of merchandise in a short period of time. It is also common that the suspects have no tie to the area where they are stealing, thus making it harder for law enforcement to locate them.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all consumers to be safe during the holiday shopping season. Do not leave items in plain view in your vehicle, be aware of people following you while shopping, and do not drive to your house if you feel a vehicle is following you.
