Narrative:
On December 4, 2020, Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Street Team arrested Rodolfo Guevara from Oxnard for possession for sales and transportation of counterfeit pressed pills.

In late November 2020, detectives began an investigation involving the distribution of counterfeit pressed pills within Ventura County.  During the investigation, detectives were able to identify Rodolfo Guevara out of Oxnard as a subject involved in the sales and distribution of counterfeit pills and other illicit drugs.

On December 4, 2020, a deputy assigned to the Post Release Offender Supervision (PROS) Unit conducted a traffic enforcement stop of Guevara in the City of Oxnard.  During the contact, Guevara admitted to possessing a large quantity of pills inside the vehicle.  During a search of the vehicle, deputies located approximately 5,000 Oxycodone pills believed to be counterfeit.  Guevara was arrested for possession for sales and transportation of controlled substances.  Guevara was transported to the Headquarters Patrol Station in Ventura for processing.  After Guevara’s arrest, detectives obtained a search warrant for Guevara’s residence located in the 200 Block of Occidental Drive in Oxnard.  During a search of the residence, detectives located an additional 5,000 counterfeit Oxycodone pills.  The 10,000 pills have an estimated street value of $200,000.

Based on the investigation, Guevara was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for violation of Health and Safety Code sections 11351 and 11352.

The Narcotics Unit has seen an increase of counterfeit Oxycodone pills.  These pills are generally mass produced in places like Mexico and smuggled into the United States where they are sold for large profits.  Counterfeit pressed pills are mass produced and lack safety protocols used by legitimate professional laboratories.  The pills look identical to legitimate medications and are often mixed with fentanyl, which make them extremely dangerous.  Counterfeit pills mixed with fentanyl are a contributor to opiate overdoses taking place throughout Ventura County.

The Narcotics Unit is committed to aggressively target narcotics sales and help combat prescription medication and illicit drug overdoses in Ventura County.   Anyone wishing to provide information on counterfeit pressed pills or related information may contact investigators from the Ventura County Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit at (805) 383-8700 or [email protected].
