*UPDATE* #LASD Homicide Detectives Responded to a Deputy-Involved Shooting, 1900blk Batson Av, Rowland Heights
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting. The incident was reported Sunday, December 6, 2020, at approximately 11:47 p.m., 1900 block of Batson Avenue in Rowland Heights.
The incident first began Saturday, December 5, 2020 at approximately 10:30 p.m., on the 1100 block of Fullerton Road in the city of Industry at a retail strip mall. There, a man and woman had an argument and she tried to leave location. He then grabbed her and forced her into his vehicle and fled. Witnesses stated potentially hearing a gunshot just prior to the suspect forcing the victim into the vehicle and kidnapping her.The suspect and victim were gone prior to the arrival of Industry Station deputies, however, a firearm, ballistic evidence and property belonging to the victim were located in the parking lot where the kidnapping occurred. Deputies immediately searched the area in an effort to locate the suspect and rescue the victim, while awaiting investigators to assist.
Ultimately, the victim was located four hours after the kidnapping. She suffered non-life threatening injuries, including abrasion to her face and lower body. She was treated at a local hospital and released. The victim is a female White 24 years-old, and was a long-time girlfriend of the suspect.
Investigators obtained information the suspect was possibly now driving a white Jeep Cherokee. Detectives put together an informational “wanted” flyer indicating the suspect was wanted for kidnapping. The information/flyer was distributed to Industry and Walnut/Diamond Bar Station deputies on Sunday morning, December 6, 2020.
Later that day, December 6, 2020 at approximately 12:45 p.m., Industry Station deputies located the vehicle (white Jeep Cherokee) and a pursuit ensued, however, the suspect was able to elude capture. Later that night at approximately 7:45 p.m., Walnut deputies observed the suspect vehicle (Jeep). Another short pursuit was initiated, the suspect was able to flee again without capture.
That brings us to 11:47 p.m., Sunday, December 6, 2020, a deputy from Industry Station was patrolling the 1900 block of Batson Avenue in Rowland Heights, when he observed a white Jeep Cherokee backed into a carport parking spot of an apartment complex. Believing this might be the suspect vehicle, he pulled in front of the Jeep. As the deputy was exiting his vehicle to investigate, the suspect appeared in the Jeep’s driver seat, revved the engine and rammed the front end of the patrol vehicle. During that time, the deputy’s leg was caught underneath the vehicle pinning him and a deputy involved shooting occurred.
The deputy was transported and treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect, male Hispanic 28 years-old, was pronounce dead at the scene.
The vehicle that was used in the kidnapping was reported stolen. It's make and model are not available at this time. The white Jeep Cherokee is also believed to be an unreported stolen vehicle.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are responding to a deputy-involved shooting. The incident occurred Sunday, December 6, 2020, on the 1900 blk of Batson Ave., Rowland Heights, at approximately 11:47 PM
Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a person is struck by gunfire, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process. Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted. Every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee. Input from Constitutional Policing Advisors is provided during the process. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, conducts a legal analysis to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed and if the shooting was legally justified.
