Narrative:
On November 19, 2020, Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Street Team concluded an investigation involving Alfredo Cortes of Oxnard, who was involved in the sales of narcotics to residents of Ventura County.

In early October 2020, detectives obtained information indicating Cortes was involved in the sales of methamphetamine.  Detectives investigated and were able to confirm his involvement in methamphetamine sales.  Detectives identified Cortes’ residence in the 1200 Block of Escalon Drive in Oxnard and were able to obtain a search warrant for Cortes, his residence, and his vehicle.

On November 19, 2020, narcotics detectives and members of the California National Guard Counter Drug Task Force conducted surveillance and contacted Cortes a short distance from his residence.  Cortes was detained pursuant to the search warrant and a passenger in his vehicle was ultimately arrested for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.  Detectives went to Cortes’ residence and contacted his girlfriend and 13 month old daughter.  Detectives searched the residence for evidence of narcotics sales and found over six pounds of methamphetamine, 155 grams of heroin, ecstasy pills, a loaded firearm and money believed to be drug proceeds.  A records check revealed the firearm was stolen out of Arizona.

The drugs were in a bedroom closet accessible to Cortes’ 13-month-old daughter.  Ventura County Child Protective Services was contacted regarding the circumstances of the case and ensuring the future safety of the child.   Cortes’ extensive criminal history and previous felony convictions prohibit him from owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition.

Based on the investigation, Cortes was arrested for various narcotics and firearms charges.  Cortes was also arrested for child endangerment and detectives will investigate any additional crimes.  Cortes was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and is awaiting court proceedings.
