Officers Investigating Murder Suicide in San Mateo
The San Mateo Police Department is actively investigating a murder suicide that started on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 7:20 a.m. in the 1700 block of Pierce Street. Officers learned the homicide was a targeted and isolated incident. This is not connected to the recent shootings.
Minutes after the homicide, officers located the suspect at his residence in the 1600 block of Marina Court and immediately began negotiations with him with the assistance of North Central Regional SWAT Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team. After nearly 4-hours of negotiations, the suspect refused to surrender and committed suicide inside his home at 12:12 p.m. Officers learned the suspect’s wife was inside the home with him and was unharmed.
This investigation is ongoing and the reason for the murder suicide is unknown. Additional information will be made available as this investigation develops.
