Occurred Time: 03:42 AM
Location: 409 Wilson Street, Petaluma
Suspect: Jesus Peralta, 27-year-old Marin County resident
Cynthia Roman, 23-year-old Marin County resident
On 10/27/2020 at approximately 0342 hours, the Petaluma Police Department received a call from an alert resident that at least one subject was attempting to steal construction equipment from the bed of a work truck. The resident observed the subject use a large bolt cutter to attempt to cut a metal chain that secured the construction equipment.
The suspect abruptly stopped his efforts and fled in a nearby vehicle. A Petaluma Officer located the vehicle a few blocks away and made a traffic stop. Jesus Peralta and Cynthia Roman were contacted in the vehicle.
During the investigation, Peralta confessed to attempting to steal the equipment, but was unsuccessful. A search of the vehicle yielded a pair of bolt cutters and a reciprocating saw which were in the passenger area. These tools are typically used to burglarize vehicle’s and remove catalytic converters. There was also narcotic paraphernalia and loose marijuana in the passenger area.
Roman initially provided a false name to officers and was subsequently arrested after her real identity was discovered, and that she had a warrant out of Marin County for drug related crimes. She was also arrested for being in possession of suspected methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia.
Peralta was arrested for attempted grand theft and possession of burglary tools. Both Peralta and Roman were booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the alert resident who contacted the Petaluma Police Department. We always encourage anyone who observes something suspicious to report it.
