Zip Lock Bag Containing Pills Found in Candy Received at “Trunk or Treat” Event

On the evening of Friday, October 23, 2020, a Simi Valley resident took her children to a “Trunk or Treat” event in the old Farmers Insurance building parking lot located at the corner of Cochran Street and Galena Avenue. The parent told the Police Department she found out about the event through Facebook. The children that participated in the event received free candy.

When the family returned to their residence, the parent dumped her children’s candy out on the counter so she could spray it with disinfectant spray as a COVID-19 precaution. When the parent inspected the candy, she discovered a clear zip lock bag containing four circular blue pills and one white cylinder shaped pill. It was determined that the blue bills are Oxycodone, which is an opiate narcotic and the white pill is Xanax, which is a Benzodiazepine medication. These pills are very dangerous and would have a traumatic effect if ingested by children.

The Police Department is still investigating this incident and there is no suspect information at this time. We would like to remind parents about the importance of inspecting any candy or edibles their children receive during Halloween events.
