Press Release: Homicide Investigation Update

DATE: October 10, 2020
LOCATION: 30 Block of Ranch Drive
CASE #: 20-284-195
SUSPECT: Kevin James Gitmed, 35-year old male, Gilroy resident
VICTIM: Causandra Inocencio, 40-yeard old female, San Jose resident

On October 10, 2020 at 10:16 P.M., officers responded to the 30 block of Ranch Drive on the report of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found that Causandra Inocencio was injured from a gunshot wound. Officers provided aid to Causandra prior to paramedics arriving on scene. Paramedics transported Causandra to a local hospital but despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries. Milpitas Police Detectives identified Kevin James Gitmed as the suspect in this homicide.

During the evening hours of October 14, 2020, Detectives located Gitmed at a hotel in Merced County. With the assistance of the Merced County Sheriff’s Office and United States Marshals Service, detectives served a search and arrest warrant at the hotel. Merced County Sheriff’s Office Deputies made announcements requesting Gitmed exit the room and surrender however they received no response from Gitmed. Deputies later entered the room after their repeated attempts to contact Gitmed went unanswered. Upon entering the room, Gitmed was found deceased. Gitmed’s death is currently being investigated by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
