| Narrative: |
On 10/7/2020, at approximately 9:32 AM, the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call for service at the Marriott Fairfield Inn regarding a disturbance. Patrol deputies responded and learned William Koznar, a guest at the hotel, had created a disturbance in the lobby and hotel staff were requesting assistance with having him removed from the property. Deputies contacted Koznar at his room and learned he was accompanied by a female adult. Deputies determined the female had been seriously injured and summoned emergency medical services. The female was transported to Simi Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Deputies determined Koznar was in a domestic relationship with the female and responsible for her injuries. Koznar was arrested for a felony violation of Penal Code 273.5(a) PC / Domestic Violence. He was transported to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility where he was booked for the offense.
Later in the day, deputies learned the female’s medical condition deteriorated at the hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced deceased at about 3:59 PM. Investigators from the Moorpark Police Department, Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and Sheriff’s East County Detective Unit responded to investigate the incident as a potential homicide. This investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Koznar for a felony violation of Penal Code section 187(a) PC / Murder. Koznar remains in custody on $1,000,000.00 bail and is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on 10/9/2020.
