Narrative: On September 25, 2020, deputies assigned to Camarillo Patrol Services and the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail arrested six subjects for being under the influence of illegal drugs, possession of controlled substances, and for resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer. On September 25, 2020, deputies assigned to the Camarillo Police Department were conducting high visibility patrols in the 4400 block of Central Avenue in Camarillo. At about 9:42 AM, deputies located a parked vehicle at a local lodging establishment that was associated with a known wanted subject. Minutes later, deputies watched as a female subject approached and opened the doors of this vehicle. Deputies contacted the female, identified as Vanessa Zuniga, and confirmed she was on Ventura County probation. During a probation search of Zuniga’s vehicle, deputies located her purse which contained approximately one ounce of suspected methamphetamine. In addition to searching Zuniga’s vehicle, other responding deputies contacted an additional five subjects walking around outside the area. These subjects were identified as: Bethani Daniel, Ryan Ealand-Laymon, Michael Maheno, Maria Fino and Lilyana Hassan. During these contacts, it was discovered Fino was on Ventura County probation for drug related charges with search terms. At the conclusion of this investigation, Zuniga was arrested for 11377(a) HS / Possession of a controlled substance and 11550(a) HS / Under the influence of a controlled substance. The five other subjects contacted by deputies, Daniel, Ealand-Laymon, Maheno, Fino and Hassan were also all arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Hassan was additionally charged with 148(a)(1) PC / Resisting or obstructing a peace officer, when she attempted to walk away from the scene after being ordered by deputies to stop. Due to existing COVID-19 precautions currently in place to minimize exposure of inmates housed at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, Zuniga, Daniel, Ealand-Laymon, Maheno, and Fino were issued misdemeanor citations and released with pending court dates. Hassan was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with bail set at $5,000. |
