SUMMARY: On September 21, 2020, at 10:40 p.m., deputies assigned to the Morongo Basin Station responded to the report of a reckless/ suspected DUI driver in the area of Park Boulevard/Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree. Deputies located the vehicle matching the description traveling southbound on Park Boulevard toward Joshua Tree National Park. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, Angela Harris, failed to yield, leading deputies in pursuit for over 8.5 miles into the Joshua Tree National Park. During the pursuit, Harris drove with willful and wanton disregard for public safety by driving into oncoming traffic several times.
The pursuit ended when Harris intentionally crashed into a Sheriff's Deputy patrol vehicle. The deputy was not injured during the collision. Harris was taken into custody without incident. Harris was arrested for felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Harris was transported and booked at West Valley Detention Center.
