Narrative:
On September 18, 2020, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report of a man in the street on Charterwood Court, who was hallucinating and armed with a rifle. Thousand Oaks Patrol personnel quickly responded to the area and located the suspect, Arturo Gonzalez. Gonzalez was armed with a loaded AR-15 rifle and displayed strong symptomology indicating he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Patrol personnel were able to gain Gonzalez’s compliance and successfully directed Gonzalez to put down the rifle. Gonzalez was arrested and the rifle was seized without further incident. The rifle was found to be unregistered and manufactured illegally, without a serial number.
Patrol deputies received additional information indicating Gonzalez was a convicted felon, who was prohibited from owning firearms. It was also reported Gonzalez fired off a shot inside his home prior to exiting and might have additional weapons inside the house.
East County Major Crimes Detectives authored a search warrant for Gonzalez’s home and vehicle. During the service of the search warrant, a loaded AK-47 rifle, numerous rounds of ammunition, a ballistic vest, a set of brass knuckles, and approximately 2 ounces of Methamphetamine were located and seized. Furthermore, evidence inside the home indicated a fresh round of .223 (AR-15) ammunition had been fired inside Gonzalez’s bedroom. The round traveled through several walls and into an adjoining garage, resulting in serious risk of injury or death to others.
