2020 Labor Day Marine Enforcement Operation

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit conducted it's 2020 Labor Day Marine Enforcement Operation starting on Saturday September 5th through September 7th. The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada state line to the Riverside County line as well as Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead.

Most of the operation was focused on the waterways with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the river and lakes. A total of eleven patrol vessels, an OHV team, the Sheriff's Dive Team and two Sheriff's Department helicopters were deployed throughout the area. The Marine Enforcement unit conducted a total of one hundred fifty enforcement stops throughout the holiday weekend. There was a total of 10 arrests made for Boating Under the Influence and 1 warrant arrest. The following are the names of the individuals arrested during the operation:

Jacob Toy, 29 years old from San Bernardino Ca.
Frank Perez, 48 years old from San Bernardino, Ca.
Juan Carillo, 47 years old from Victorville, Ca.
Scott Phillips, 38 years old from Simi Valley, Ca.
Ricardo Fierro, 29 years old from El Paso, Tx.
Kevin Morford, 53 years old from Palm Springs, Ca.
Carl Reysbergen, 25 years old from Huntington Beach, Ca.
Christopher Lopez, 44 years old from Mission Hills, Ca
John Macedo, 50 years old from Riverside, Ca.
John McDaniel, 50 years old from Rancho Cucamonga, Ca.
Roberto Serna, 51 years old from Anaheim, Ca. (warrant arrest)

Approximately 38 citations were issued for various boating law violations as well as 120 verbal warnings. The Marine Enforcement Unit investigated an injury boat accident on the Parker Strip and a non-injury boat accident on Lake Arrowhead. The Sheriff’s Dive Team responded to Steamboat Cove on Lake Havasu for an unresponsive female on the shoreline. The Dive Boat performed CPR on the female and transported her to the Lake Havasu Water Safety Center where she was later transported to the Havasu Regional Medical Center.

The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit urges all California residents to go online to californiaboatercard.com and take the online test to obtain their boater card which is now required by law. The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is, as always, dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and reminds everyone to wear their life vests and to boat sober.
