*2nd UPDATE* LASD Deputy-Involved Shooting, 1200blk W 109th Pl, uninc #LosAngeles

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting. The incident occurred Monday, August 31, 2020 at approximately 3:14 p.m., on the 1200 block of 109th Place in unincorporated Los Angeles.

Detectives have learned that deputies from South Los Angeles Station were patrolling the area when they observed an individual riding a bicycle near the area of 110th Street and Budlong Avenue commit a vehicle code violation.

The person riding the bicycle was described as a male Black adult approximately 30 years of age. As the deputies attempted to make a u-turn to make contact with the individual regarding the vehicle code violation, the suspect discarded the bicycle and began to run northbound on Budlong Avenue.

The deputies momentarily lost sight of the suspect and eventually saw him again near the 1200 block of West 109th Place. They again attempted to make contact with him regarding the violation.   Upon making contact the suspect immediately punched one of the deputies in the face one time. After he punched the deputy, he dropped a jacket at which time a black semi-automatic handgun feel to the ground. The suspect made a motion toward the firearm, it was at that time a deputy involved shooting occurred.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene where they conducted life-saving efforts, however, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputies have been removed from the field pending review of the incident.
