On August 22, 2020 between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. the Moorpark Police Department conducted a Driver’s License / DUI Checkpoint. The checkpoint was held in the westbound lanes of Tierra Rejada Road east of Spring Road.

During the checkpoint deputies screened 573 vehicles, resulting in 2 DUI arrests. An additional subject was arrested for outstanding local warrants and driving on a suspended driver’s license. Deputies also issued 4 citations for a variety of traffic offenses.

Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500.  Penalties include fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, and possible jail time.

The Moorpark Police Department reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” Prescriptions drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label can impair and may result in being arrested for DUI.  Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs.

The Moorpark Police Department will be conducting another Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoint in the future in our ongoing commitment to take impaired drivers off our streets and highways.  Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoints aid in lowering the risks for deaths and injuries associated with impaired driving.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, in association with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
