Bryan Cota of Chino Hills was arrested for battery causing great bodily injury and assault with caustic chemicals

DATE/TIME: Friday, August 21, 2020 / 6:34 P.M.

INCIDENT: Assault with Caustic Chemicals, Battery Causing Great Bodily Injury, Unlawful Use of Tear Gas (Mace), Possession of Tear Gas (Mace) by a Convicted Felon.

LOCATION: Citibank, 14808 Pipeline Avenue, Chino Hills

SUSPECT(S): Bryan Cota, age 29, a resident of Chino Hills

SUMMARY: On Friday, August 21, 2020, at approximately 6:34 PM, Chino Hills deputies were dispatched to a report of an assault with pepper spray next to Citibank. Victim #1 was pepper sprayed in the face by an unknown male suspect while she sat in her vehicle. The suspect walked back to his vehicle after he pepper sprayed Victim #1. Victim #2 heard Victim #1 scream after she was pepper sprayed and chased after the suspect. A physical altercation occurred between Victim #2 and the suspect. The suspect fled in his vehicle prior to deputies arriving at the location. Victim #2 was transported to Chino Valley Medical Center for a laceration over his eye and Victim #1 was treated by Chino Valley Fire Department and released at the scene.

Through investigative leads, the suspect was identified as Bryan Cota, a resident of Chino Hills. On Sunday, August 23, 2020, at approximately 5:45 PM, deputies observed Cota’s unoccupied vehicle at a gas station in the city of Chino Hills. Deputies contacted Cota inside the gas station and apprehended him without incident. Cota was transported and booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
