Advisory

Izavea Singletary, 19, arrested in connection with August 7, 2020 Hilton Head Island shooting incident.

Case History

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on August 7, 2020, Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Hilton Head Gardens apartment complex to a report of shots fired.  As one of the deputies arrived on scene, several subjects were seen leaving the area. A short time later, an adult male approached the deputy and advised he had been shot. The deputy rendered aid to the wounded man, while other deputies and Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue paramedics responded.

Upon the arrival of additional Sheriff's Office deputies and paramedics, the scene was secured and the paramedics began to administer aid to the wounded man. While deputies interviewed witnesses and searched the Hilton Head Gardens area for the subjects, paramedics transported the wounded man to Savannah Memorial Hospital for treatment. The subjects involved in the shooting were not immediately located. Sheriff's Office investigators were called to the scene to process for forensic evidence and look into the incident further.

Identifying the subject

Since the morning of the shooting, Sheriff's Office investigators met with numerous witnesses, to include the wounded man, and reviewed evidence collected at the scene. The investigation revealed that the subject responsible for the shooting was 19-year-old Izavea Singletary of Hilton Head Island.

Obtaining of arrest warrants

Yesterday, August 19, 2020, Sheriff's Office investigators met with a Beaufort County magistrate to provide details of the investigation. After hearing the facts of the case, the magistrate issued warrants for the arrest of Izavea Singletary for Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime in connection with the August 7, 2020 Hilton Head Gardens shooting incident.

Arrest of the subject

At around 8:00 p.m. last night, Sheriff's Office deputies observed a vehicle closely associated with Izavea Singletary traveling east on U.S. 278 near Southwood Park Drive. After observing a male subject resembling Singletary inside of the vehicle, and aware that there were active felony warrants for his arrest, deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. When they approached the vehicle, deputies identified the male occupant as Singletary and placed him under arrest for the two warrants: Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

Singletary was transported to the Sheriff's Office substation on Hilton Head Island and interviewed by investigators regarding his involvement in the August 7, 2020 shooting. Following his interview, Singletary was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center and incarcerated.

This morning, a Beaufort County magistrate set Singletary's bonds at  $100,000 for the Attempted Murder charge and $10,000 for the Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime charge. As of late today, Singletary had not posted bond and remained incarcerated.
