BURR RIDGE IN WEST SUBURBAN REGION 8 – “MASK FOR US”
The Village’s total case count is 202, up from 197 on Monday, while the Village’s active case count increased from 26 to 27 in the same period. There were also over 4,000 new cases reported statewide Tuesday and Wednesday along with 52 deaths. These remain sobering numbers. Statewide positivity rates were 4.6% and 5.1% for the past two days statewide, even with a record 50,000+ tests being performed on Tuesday, with the rolling 7-day average rising from 4.1% a week ago to 4.5% today. Kane County, included in Region 8 with Burr Ridge and DuPage County remains a “warning level” for COVID-19 along with 13 other counties statewide. Counties enters a warning level when two or more COVID-19 risk indicators that measure the amount of COVID-19 increase, which include metrics such as cases per 100K people, weekly positivity rates, and hospital bed availability. Region 4 (Metro East) had further restrictions put in place after its positivity rates exceeded 8%, and they continue to grow and approach 10% even still. Please continue to be vigilant in your public encounters, as the virus is clearly still among us.
Hampton Social reopened last weekend to a new menu and improvements within the dining space. I did receive a call questioning social distancing and masking, but Chief Madden sent over an officer who found that the restaurant was following all health guidelines. Please support our Burr Ridge businesses whenever possible, especially those who were forced to close and remain restricted in their capacity to operate.
If you are a Burr Ridge resident and need masks, please call the Village Hall (630-654-8181). They are freely available for any resident. We have given over 1,500 masks away to residents in the past month and will continue to provide this service as a courtesy to our great residents.
August 18, 1920: The Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified giving women the right to vote - and many did in the 1920 Presidential election that gave us Warren G. Harding. The first women’s right convention had occurred in Seneca Falls, NY (near Syracuse) in July 1848. It took over seventy years from there for women to be able to cast a ballot nationally.
