Sexual Assault Update – Help Locate Suspect – Check Your Cameras

San Mateo, CA –  On Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 10:40 p.m., San Mateo police officers were called to a report of sexual assault at 9th Ave / S El Camino Real. Officers contacted a female victim in her 60s, and learned she had been seriously beaten and then sexually assaulted. The suspect fled southwest on foot.

San Mateo Police Department detectives are tirelessly working this sexual assault case and have new information to share with the public. We believe the suspect is homeless and may have visited businesses in the city of San Mateo. The suspect is described as male, White or Hispanic, in his late teens to early 20s, light skinned, average build and height, with dark outgrown or slightly curly hair, wearing a red “LIFEGUARD” sweatshirt, dark pants, and carrying a backpack or satchel. He may have also been on a silver bicycle with duct tape wrapped around the seat.

Detectives have now found the red sweater and bicycle, however, if you’ve seen the described person in the recent past, please call the San Mateo Police Department immediately. Check your security camera footage.

Anyone with information and/or security camera footage is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Lee Violett at (650) 522-7662 or by email at [email protected]. Anonymous tips can be submitted to http://tinyurl.com/SMPDTips or by calling (650) 522-7676.
