Los Angeles County Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into a deputy-involved shooting that occurred at the 44800 block of Fenhold Street, in the City of Lancaster on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at approximately 2:59 PM.  
 
Detectives have learned that deputies assigned to Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded to the location in response to a 911 call regarding a possible Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Domestic violence incident.

Prior to the deputies arrival, the suspect, a 56 year old Lancaster resident had already fled the scene in a vehicle. As the deputies searched for the suspect, they observed a car which matched the description of the suspects’ vehicle.  At this point a vehicle pursuit ensued.  The suspect lead the deputies back to the victims residential driveway and refused to comply with verbal commands to exit his vehicle.  Less lethal weapons were then deployed.  The suspect reversed his vehicle towards the deputies at which point a deputy involved shootings occurred.  The suspect then crashed his vehicle into two patrol cars and drove away from the location.  As the vehicle pursuit continued, a second deputy involved shootings occurred after the suspect tried to run over a deputy at a high rate of speed who was attempting to deploy spike stripes.  The pursuit was terminated when the suspects’ vehicle had mechanical issues and stopped moving.  The suspect fought with deputies and less lethal weapons were utilized.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where he was treated for an injury to his left hand.

The investigation in ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.

Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, and a person is struck by gunfire, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene.  These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.  The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process.  Once concluded, a preliminary review is conducted by the Critical Incident Review Panel to determine whether any immediate actions are warranted.  Every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Justice System Integrity Division, conducts a legal analysis to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed and if the shooting was legally justified.

NARRATIVE:
