Narrative: | |||||
On May 12, 2020 at approximately 0230 hours, two victims were at Silver Strand Beach looking at the Bioluminescent waves when they were approached by several subjects. The subjects quickly brandished knives and demanded the victim’s cellphone and property. In fear for their safety the male-victim gave the suspect his cell phone. The suspects fled the area toward Ocean Drive. The victims were scared but unharmed and reported to authorities. The Headquarters Detectives and Sheriff’s Gang Unit quickly began an investigation into the robbery authoring several search warrants and interviews. During the course of the investigation detectives learned that similar crimes had occurred in the City Of Oxnard. As the investigation continued the Sheriff’s Gang Unit identified a possible suspect. Detectives compared the suspect’s photo from a previous arrest to surveillance video footage obtained from one of the Oxnard robberies that occurred near the Target at The Collection. The victims of that robbery were contacted by Oxnard Police Violent Crimes Unit and the victims were able to identify the juvenile suspect as the suspect that committed the robbery at The Collection. Oxnard Police Detectives arrested the juvenile who was already in-custody on unrelated charges at the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Center (VCJJC). Sheriff’s Gang Unit Detectives completed their investigation and determined the 17 year old juvenile was the primary suspect in the May 12, 2020 robbery in the Silver Strand Community. On July 24, 2020, detectives arrested the juvenile at the VCJJC. The juvenile remains in-custody for several counts of robbery and violation of probations. |
