Advisory

Apparently the bear likes Marietta... it remains in the area just East of MHS. More here:

The black bear remains in the area of Whitlock and Manning Road, just East of Marietta High School.  MHS admins are aware.  We have contacted DNR and the concern is that if they tranquilize it in this heat it could ultimately kill the bear.  We are monitoring the situation and do have officers near it.  Please work with us and remain patient... and cautious if you travel in that area tonight.

The working theory is still that the bear will return to it's natural home (just West of its current location) inside the National Park after sunset and the temperature cools.

A black bear (native to Georgia) was seen wandering in and around the area of Laurel Park and surrounding neighborhoods this morning.  The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been contacted to assist with the safe relocation if necessary.

The most likely scenario is that the bear will continue West and return to the woods in the National park nearby.

If you live in the area, rest assured we have officers monitoring the situation while waiting for DNR.  If possible please stay inside for the next few hours.  If you must leave, please plan to travel by motor vehicle.

If you are traveling in that area this morning please use caution and stay in your vehicle if you happen to encounter it.
