BURR RIDGE IN NEW WEST SUBURBAN REGION – “MASK FOR US”
The new case count in Burr Ridge increased only one again since Monday to 124. As today’s ACR
announcement underscores, rolling averages is what matters. That is exactly what we have been
tracking. Fourteen days ago on July 3, there were 104 cases – 20 new cases in 14 days. The state
also is testing approximately 40,000 people per day. The increases nonetheless have to be watched
closely. The next 2-4 weeks will tell the tale.
Burr Ridge, as a DuPage County municipality, is now within the West Suburban Region 8 that is
comprised of only DuPage and Kane Counties. Overall, the Governor has recreated eleven regions
(expanded from the original four) around the State. Chicago and Suburban Cook are both their own
regions as well. The new regional arrangement is fairer and better incentivizes each region to
mitigate spikes in COVID-19. The announcement is to alert us to a plan that would address the need
for greater social restrictions should there be a surge in one or more regions. If there is a
sustained increase in positivity in a 7-day rolling average (7 out of 10 days) AND a
similar sustained increase in Covid-19 hospital admissions OR substantial reduction in ICU
capacity or med/surg. beds under 20%, there will be more restrictions imposed. The same can be
stated should there be three consecutive days averaging greater than or equal to 8% positivity
rate.
Since yesterday, DuPage County had 111 new cases of COVID-19, with two deaths: a male in 60s and a
female in her 80s. Overall, DuPage has gone over the 10,000-case mark, now with 10,020 cases and
492 deaths – approximately 75% of which occurred in long-term care facilities. DuPage’s
population is estimated to be about 925,000. Kane County – the other county now in our West
Suburban Region 8 has an estimated population of 533,000 with 8,352 cases and 288 deaths. The
rolling 4-day positivity rate is about 4.5% with 34% of med/surg. beds and 49% of ICU beds
available. Right now, in our new region, there appears to be no need to presume that
more restrictions are forthcoming.
On Saturday, July 18, from 9:00 am to Noon at the Village Hall, we will have a fourth mask give
away to Burr Ridge residents with an address ID.
I have received comments that a Clay County, IL judge has declared the Governor’s order null and
void. While I respect the court’s opinion, this is not a matter of law at this stage – it is a
matter of common sense healthcare. Wearing a mask is protecting you and others. Mask For US.
Let’s hope for a more peaceful weekend, with significantly decreased violence and no deaths. While
much needs to be debated, decided and done - immediate safety comes first.
