South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management Weekly COVID Report – July 7, 2020

South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management Weekly COVID Report – July 7, 2020

South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management is providing a weekly update on COVID cases in our Township. Last week we recorded 5 new cases. In 5 of the last 6 weeks, we have had single-digit increases in new cases. The average age of the person testing positive last week was 70 years old. The New Jersey State Department of Health website list South Brunswick as having the virus suppressed at this time.

Trends
Of the five people who tested positive, three were over the age of eighty, continuing a trend of older residents having the highest rates of infection. Statewide, 169 people are hospitalized in ICU from COVID, down from a high of over 2000 in April. Testing results are taking longer to come back as more people are being tested, even those without symptoms. Test results can take anywhere from 5 to 7 days to come back.

We continue to track EMS calls to monitor any upticks in demand as well as motor vehicle crashes to track increased activity around the community. The numbers for EMS calls dropped off last week, but motor vehicle crashes have stayed consistent.

We currently have 446 cases of residents who have tested positive. This number reflects both residents and people living in long term care facilities in the Township. A total of 29 lives have been lost in the Township to the virus. 16 of those who have died have been connected to long term care facilities in the Township.

Middlesex County has a total of 16,852 residents who have tested positive. Last week, the County recorded an average of 33 new cases per day.

The social distancing and wearing face-covering have made an impact on the declining number of positive cases.  As more restaurants and businesses open up, remain vigilant in protecting yourself and others by wearing face-coverings and keeping social distance.
