Local Gang Member Arrested For Possessing A Rifle

TIME: 7:25 PM

LOCATION: 700 Block of W. Holt Ave., Pomona, CA

CRIME/CHARGES:

  • 29800 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • 23900 PC – Alter the Identification of a Firearm  
  • 25850 (c)(3) PC – Carry Loaded Firearm (Gang Member)
  • 30305 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Ammunition
SUSPECT: Rodriguez, Isaac – 21 year old, Pomona resident
 
NARRATIVE: 

On Wednesday, June 24, 2020; Officers from the Pomona Police Department's, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) were in the area of 700 W. Holt Ave. conducting routine patrols when they saw, Isaac Rodriguez, a known gang member, suspiciously holding a large object to the front of his waistband. When Officers attempted to make contact with Rodriguez, he ran while concealing the object. Rodriguez tried to evade Officers by fleeing into a local bar. Just inside the front entry, Rodriguez discarded the object he tried hiding from police. The item was found to be a loaded, 22 caliber long rifle. Officers recovered the weapon and immediately detained Rodriguez. Rodriguez admitted to possessing the firearm and said he discarded it because he didn’t want to be arrested. Rodriguez is a documented gang member with an extensive history of being contacted and/or arrested by the police. Rodriguez was subsequently arrested without further incident and charged with the previously mentioned violations.
 
UNIT:
 
The Pomona Police Department’s, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) is a specialized unit within the police department that is responsible for suppressing gang violence, investigating drug offenses and pursuing wanted persons. The team is comprised of two supervisors, five officers and two additional officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.
