Advisory

June 12, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS

Friday, June 12, 2020

All Health Metrics Remain Favorable

The Village’s COVID-19 case count inched up one to 91. Fourteen days ago, when we entered Phase 3, there were 84 cases, meaning we have seen just 7 reported cases since entering Phase 3. In the Northeast Region that includes Chicago with us, the positivity rate is just 8% while the statewide rate is below 5%. The goal was to be consistently below 20%. The other key metrics such as general hospital bed, ICU bed, and ventilator availability are all comfortably within normal parameters. On every level, we have not only flattened the curve, we have considerably bent it downwards. Daily death counts continue to trend downwards, but this stat must continue to decrease. Remember that the virus is a killer of those over age 60 and causes death in those under 60 with co-morbidities. If you are not certain about venturing out, then do not.

A DuPage County-based free testing center is open the grounds of Anne M. Jeans Elementary School on 91st Street west of Route 83. If you want a test, you can get it. There will be no charge for the test regardless of your benefits status. To control scheduling, the facility is asking those seeking a test to call (708) 745-5277.

Village Hall will be reopen with COVID-19 safety precautions this Monday, June 15. A glass partition has been installed at the front counter for visitor and staff safety. If you need to come to Village Hall, please wear a face covering. We also are planning to have the Village Board meet together for the first time at the July 13 Board meeting. There will be Plexiglas barriers between Trustees as well as distancing for public attendees.

It’s Friday and we are halfway through Phase 3, well on target for Phase 4 to start June 26. Our tent program for outdoor dining has been a great success. The weather will be beautiful if you want to patronize our restaurants, and our shops and stores in the Village Center and County Line Square. We have to watch for spikes in COVID cases, but we should stay confident and vigilant that we have done all that has been asked of us as a community to the novel coronavirus.

We are currently in the midst of two historic days in our country’s history. Today, June 12, is Loving Day, wherein 53 years ago the Supreme Court ruled in Loving v. Virginia that interracial marriage is a legal right available to all persons. In addition, Sunday is Flag Day. These two days are cause to celebrate the freedoms of which this country is built upon, and a reminder that we must persevere in protecting rights for all people.

“This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. The choices are ours. It floats in majestic silence above the hosts that execute those choices, whether in peace or in war. And yet, though silent, it speaks to us….” — Woodrow Wilson
