Sal Becerra has been assigned to the Malibu/Lost Hills Station (LHS) four times in his career, most recently as the Acting Captain.  He has now officially been named Captain, and will maintain his leadership role at the station.
 
He started his career as a line deputy in 1990 at Pitchess Detention Center, South facility (PDC - South).  His early years in patrol were served at Century Station, LHS, and Training Bureau, where he served the Department and the residents of Los Angeles County in various capacities and roles from line deputy to training officer.
 
Promoting to sergeant in 2000, Becerra transferred to Compton station as a field sergeant and then to Operation Safe Streets Bureau as the gang enforcement team supervisor.  He was also assigned to Risk Management Bureau as a health and safety sergeant, and to Transit Services Bureau as a field sergeant.
 
When he promoted to lieutenant in 2013, Becerra returned to PDC-South as a watch commander, transferred to Audit & Accountability Bureau as a team lieutenant, then to Men’s Central Jail, East Los Angeles Station, Santa Clarita Station, and again to LHS.
 
After a brief transfer to Court Services Division, Becerra returned to LHS as the Acting Captain, and will remain there as the station’s newest official Captain.
 
Becerra has a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration, both from California State University at Northridge.  He is married with two daughters, one in high school and one in college.  When he is not at work, he enjoys doing his own yard work, repairing his own cars, restoring old VW’s, watching the Dodgers play, and is always in the middle of a book.
 
There has been a Becerra on the Department for over forty years. As the son of retired Captain Irma Becerra, Sal Becerra is an LASD legacy and hopes he is not the last in his family to serve.
 
With approximately 177 sworn and civilian personnel, LHS serves the communities of Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills, Calabasas, Malibu, Topanga, and the unincorporated areas of Chatsworth and West Hills.  The station also boasts an award-winning Search and Rescue team, comprised of LASD Reserve Deputies and civilian volunteers from all professions, who provide their expertise to aid residents and visitors of the Santa Monica Mountains recreation area.
