June 5, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS

Phase 3 Health Metrics Continue To Improve Toward Phase 4
The COVID-19 case count remained at 89 for Burr Ridge today. The positivity rate for DuPage County was 10% and the seven-day average, with a three-day lag, was 11%. Similarly, the Cook County Department of Health shows Covid related ER and hospital admissions have bell-curved down almost to levels equal to early March. We are definitely progressing toward Phase 4.
Covid-19 remains very much with us as the stats show. It hits those age 60 and older hard, and can do significant damage to those in their fifties and even younger. Remember the admonition of Sgt. Phil Esterhaus to the Hill Street Blues patrol officers: “Let’s Be Careful Out There!”
We are entering the second weekend for our outdoor dining. I drove through the Village to observe the tent sites today and all are ready for you to come, have a good time, and spend your money supporting our great restaurants. We have reinforced the need for servers (and back-of-the house) to observe social distancing and wear masks. Let’s continue to get back to new-normal as safe as possible. The weather is supposed to cooperate and let’s all enjoy a wonderful first week of June in Burr Ridge – a very special place, indeed.
Due to our strong recommendation to use facial covering, and broader need due to store openings and outdoor dining, Burr Ridge will have its third mask give-away to Burr Ridge residents only this Saturday June 6th (D-Day!) from 9:00 am to Noon. And fill out your census forms – please!
We will add a few smaller ones at no extra cost for shops and businesses that have shown a need for them. Remember our shops and stores too. Spend your quarantine money in Burr Ridge.
In regards to what is happening in other parts of Chicagoland, I have been in regular contact with our Police Department. You can be confident that my discussions with Chief Madden are consistent with the concept that civil rights are to be respected, but looters are criminals and must be stopped. We have a considered plan that includes a plan for mutual Police aid and a protocol for timely back up of trained state police officers should the need arise.
I want to give a thumbs-up in appreciation for our Assistant Village Administrator Evan Walter. He took today off - well deserved. Like police officers, the hard work of village staff is sometimes not fully appreciated. I have worked with Evan – and many staff members – every day of this pandemic and recently with the events originating in Minnesota and their aftermath. “Everyday” here includes weekends lately. You have a great village staff and Evan is a leader amongst equals.
D-Day is June 6 – the 76th Anniversary of the greatest air and seaborne military movement of forces and equipment in military history. Think about that in this context from the 1940s.
"We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living." - General Omar Bradley
