Solano County Proclaims Local Emergency and Issues Countywide Curfew Order
INFORMATION RELEASE
Solano County Local Emergency and Curfew Order
In cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, Solano Sheriff Thomas A. Ferrara has imposed a Countywide Local Emergency and CurfewOrder effective immediately, commencing this evening, June 2, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. The curfew requires people in the County of Solano to stay indoors from 8:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. The Local Emergency will remain in place until 5:00 a.m. on June 4, 2020 or until the Declaration of Local Emergency is rescinded or extended at the discretion of the County. This order is a response to the civil unrest, looting, and destruction of personal and real property that followed peaceful protests over the last several days in the State of California and here in Solano County.
The killing of George Floyd has our country reeling. Many are taking part in peaceful protests. This order is meant to protect protesters right to free speech and peaceful assembly. However, peaceful protests have been disrupted by violence and civil unrest that will not be tolerated. It is my belief that such conditions pose extreme risk to the safety of persons and property. The curfew will be in place to preserve public order and safety during the Local Emergency.
Exemptions to this Order:
- · Peace Officers; firefighters; emergency operations personnel, the National Guard or other military personnel deployed to the area;
- · Individuals traveling to and from work;
- · Authorized members of the media;
- · “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers” as designated by the State Public Health Officer;
- · People experiencing homelessness and without access to a viable shelter;
- · Individuals seeking medical attention.
Any violations of the curfew are a misdemeanor and violators will be subject to arrest or citation.
