Update on Opening of Denville Township Parks

The Township of Denville will have a further reopening of its public parks beginning on Monday, June 22, 2020. This order will serve to supplement the order from May 2, 2020, which opened Denville parks for the following passive recreational activities in which social distancing can be achieved and maintained: walking, hiking, running, jogging and fishing (with appropriate license and permits, as required). Furthermore, the Dog Park at Veterans Memorial Park was also opened with humans required to follow social distancing protocols.

Effective Monday, June 22, 2020, All Denville parks, athletic fields and tennis courts (not playgrounds) will also open for non-contact sports and activities for groups of up to a maximum of 25 individuals in accordance with EO148. No organized games, pick-up games or tournaments of any type will be permitted. Groups may utilize the fields strictly for practice purposes where social distancing can be maintained and where sports equipment is not required to be shared. Organized sports organizations can contact Recreation Director Nick Panetta to schedule field time for practices.

Due to public health and safety considerations, all playgrounds will remain closed as will public bathrooms at the parks and fields. Therefore, visitors are requested to plan accordingly. Please note that parking may be limited in certain parks in order to reduce the number of people at each facility.

To allow parks and trails to remain open for both limited active and passive recreation, to the greatest extent possible, users are asked to adhere to the following safety protocols:

• It is recommended that all park users continue to wear face coverings.

• Observe social distancing protocols of at least 6 feet from others at all times, except for immediate family members, caretakers, household members or romantic partners. If this is not possible, users should leave that location and find an alternative location. Gatherings of groups larger than 25 participants at the parks or on fields is prohibited.

• Do not use the parks, fields or trails if you are exhibiting any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

The Township sincerely appreciates your anticipated cooperation. In following the above protocols, we can all ensure our friends and neighbors remain safe and that the Township will be able to keep the parks open.
