Message from the Chief of Police

Like my colleagues in law enforcement and citizens across our country, I was shocked and disgusted by the tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Officer who used his knee to pin him to the ground while he begged for help. Mr. Floyd’s killing is shameful to anyone who wears a badge and chose law enforcement as a profession to help others. This callous behavior and utter disregard for human life goes against the values and culture that the women and men of the Simi Valley Police Department strive to reflect in their service to our community.

People are understandably angry and frustrated. They are demanding change, and they have taken the opportunity to exercise their rights to protest. Unfortunately, in many of our neighboring communities and beyond, the peaceful protests to bring attention to the despicable actions by the Minneapolis Police have led to widespread violence, looting, and destruction. Some of this has been manifested on a variety of social media platforms.

We understand that these events and social media posts have raised the level of fear and unease among some in our community. As your Chief of Police and 32 year veteran of the Department, I want to assure you that we are closely monitoring these events and working with our regional, state, and national partners to ensure that those who wish to protest can do so safely. Our Police Officers are dedicated to protecting and serving all the members of our diverse community.

If you have a life-threatening emergency, please dial 911. For other concerns, please contact the Department’s general business line, 805-583-6950.
