Detectives arrest Steven Perez for attempted murder

LOCATION: 7400 Block of Bannock Trail, Yucca Valley
SUSPECT: Steven Perez, 35 year old male, resident of Yucca Valley
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On May 27, 2020, at 4:13 p.m., deputies assigned to the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station responded to an assault report at High Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree. Deputies contacted the victim, who was found to have multiple physical injuries. During the investigation, deputies discovered the victim was lured to an apartment by Steven Perez in the 7400 Block of Bannock Trail in the Town of Yucca Valley on May 18, 2020.
Once inside of the location the victim was beaten and their hands and feet were bound. The victim was locked inside of a room within the apartment which was found to have the windows barricaded with wood to prevent escape. The victim was then burned and tortured by Perez prior to being freed approximately 12 hours later. An arrest warrant was sought by detectives and Perez was located and arrested without incident on May 28, 2020, in Yucca Valley. Local detectives served a series of search warrants in the Town of Yucca Valley, recovering evidence related to the crime. Perez was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail and being held in lieu of $250,000.00 bail.
