May 14, 2020

To the Sun Prairie community,

Last night, the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the statewide Safer at Home order. Following the decision, Public Health Madison & Dane County issued a local Dane County order that incorporates the elements of the Safer at Home order that is effective now through Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Under Wis. Stats. Sec. 252.03(1), local health officers have the authority to issue any order necessary to prevent, suppress, or control communicable disease. This means that the general Safer at Home guidelines remain in effect for Sun Prairie and Dane County.

Minimum basic operations of businesses, as identified in Emergency Orders #34 and #36 remain in place. At this time, city facilities remain closed to the public and city staff remain accessible by phone or by email. It is our intent to open in phases as outlined in the Sun Prairie Stronger Together plan and Badger Bounce Back plan. We continue to post our most up-to-date information on the city’s website and social media channels.

Sun Prairie will continue to follow the direction of our public health partners at Public Health Madison & Dane County. We ask that you continue following Safer at Home guidelines and practice social distancing. While we distance ourselves physically, we know the Sun Prairie Strong spirit is even stronger when we work together to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Thank you, and stay safe.

Aaron Oppenheimer City Administrator
