Darren McDuffey was arrested for attempt murder after setting fire to a woman during an argument

SUSPECT: Darren McDuffey, 31-year-old male, resident of Victorville
VICTIM: 44-year-old female, resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY:
On Sunday, May 10, 2020, at approximately 2:43 p.m., deputies responded to a residence located in the 11000 block of Third Avenue in reference to a 911 emergency. Darren McDuffey, 31-year-old male from Victorville, advised dispatch of a female on fire at the location. When deputies arrived, they found the victim, a 44-year-old female, with third degree burns on most of her body. The victim was transported by air to an undisclosed hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Through the investigation, deputies determined the victim and McDuffey were in a verbal argument. During the argument, McDuffey poured a large amount of gasoline onto the victim and lit the victim on fire. McDuffey sustained burns to his hands in the process.
McDuffey was contacted at the incident location and was arrested by deputies from the Hesperia Station. McDuffey was subsequently booked at High Desert Detention Center for PC 664/187- Attempt Murder.
