On May 7, 2020, at about 3:30 am, Kern County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the Wasco Substation were dispatched to a check the welfare call in the 900-block of 16th Street in Wasco. When they arrived, there was an ongoing altercation inside of the residence, which led deputies to enter the residence. Once inside, deputies located an armed adult male actively assaulting two females. The subject was ordered multiple times to drop the knife he was holding; however, a confrontation ensued, which concluded in an officer-involved shooting. Medical aid was called to the scene. The two females were found to be suffering multiple stab wounds. The victims were transported to a hospital in Bakersfield, where one remains in critical condition, and one has been discharged. The suspect succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives were called to the scene and assumed the investigation. The three deputies involved were placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The identity of the decedent will be withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Coroner’s Office.
