Morongo Basin Search & Rescue, K-9 and Sheriff's Aviation conducted a search and rescue near Giant Rock in Landers

SUMMARY:
On Monday, April 20, 2020, Robert "Manny" Chase was camping at Giant Rock in Landers, California, with his family. He walked away from his camp around 10:30 p.m. in an unknown direction.
On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, the Morongo Basin Sheriff Station was contacted reference Manny missing since Monday. He was known to walk away and usually returns the next morning.
Members from Sheriff Aviation, K-9, and Morongo Basin Search and Rescue responded to the area and began a search for Manny. Several "Good Samaritans" from the area were also in the area searching for Manny. Around 5:30 p.m. Search and Rescue members were notified of tracks and evidence Manny was near Landers Elementary School. Search and Rescue began to track Manny's footprints, and Manny was located in a ditch north of Reche Road in Landers. Manny did not have any injuries and was reunited with his family.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for conducting search and rescue (SAR) operations to assist persons who become lost, stranded and/or injured in wilderness areas. The Department provides these services through several all-volunteer search and rescue teams. The Morongo Basin Search and Rescue Team is seeking volunteers to join. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the Morongo Basin Sheriff Station.
